On Comics

Current Favorite Comic Book:

Man, that is one hard question. I enjoy so many books on a monthly basis. But I can tell you that ULTIMATES, POWERS, SUPREME POWER, 100 BULLETS and PLANETARY are definitely among my favorites.

All Time Favorite Comic Book:

As a kid, growing up, I suppose that X-MAN and The MICRONAUTS were probably my favorites. Today, again, it’s hard to narrow it down to just one with some much great stuff coming out all the time. I guess that the book that I’ve really loved the most recently has been ALIAS by Brian Michael Bendis. Even though THE PULSE is great, I still miss ALIAS quite a bit.

Best Single Issue Ever Read:

AVENGERS Annual #10. It’s the perfect super-hero comic. Written by Chris Claremont at the top of his game and illustrated by the unrecognized god of comics: Michael Golden. If I was stuck on a desert island and could only bring one comic, that would be it.

Best Story Arc Ever Read:

I’d have to say that the first SIN CITY story arc is about as brilliant as modern comics can get.

Favorite Comic book Artist:

Of all-time, it again would have to be the brilliant Michael Golden. The man is a master. I just wish he was still putting out work on a regular basis. But, currently, on a month-to-month basis, I enjoy guys like Jae Lee, John Cassaday, Eduardo Risso and Tim Bradstreet.

Favorite Comic book Writer:

Warren Ellis. It seems the man just can’t seem to write a comic that I don’t enjoy the hell out of.

Personal Goal as an Artist:

To do my job well. To make the reader care about these characters and find a connection with them. To create mood and pacing and emotions through my illustrations and characters and actions within them.

I want to create for the rest of my life. My hope is to bring along as many people as possible to join me for the ride.
